The former England captain’s deal at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer, and his old centre-back partner feels he deserves a new contract.
The former England captain’s current contract is set to expire in the summer after penning a one-year deal at the end of last season, but there has been no news on whether he will still be at Stamford Bridge next term.
Terry has been an essential member of Jose Mourinho’s side that has powered to the top of the Premier League table and the Brazilian has been full of praise for his old defensive team-mate.
“I played next to John for a long time. He is having another great season with Chelsea, maybe one of his best,” The Mirror quote Luiz as saying.
“I am sure there is no question about Chelsea renewing his contract for another season, with the way he is playing he has made it impossible for them not to.”
The Paris Saint-Germain centre-half left west London in the summer for a cool £50 million after a trophyless campaign, but he feels that the Blues are destined for glory this term.
“I do think Chelsea are the strongest team in England, and although there are many games left, I think they will win the league,” he continued.
“They have the lead now and I think they have the players there who have the mental ability to cope with the pressure of being top.”
Chelsea host title rivals and current champions Manchester City later today at Stamford Bridge in a crucial clash.
Terry looks certain to play, but the hosts will be without the suspended Diego Costa.
