Tottenham Hotspur had been linked with the pacey Ivorian forward.
Yesterday saw Tottenham Hotspur linked with a late move for CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia.
The Ivorian striker was reportedly the subject of a 'significant offer' for the striker, according to renowned Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Roma sold Mattia Destro to AC Milan yesterday so were looking to bring in a new striker to compete for the forward positions.
Now Tottenham can officially wide the strikers name from the wishlist as he has completed that move today. Roma announced the deal this afternoon on their official website. The statement read:
"L’A.S. Roma S.p.A. announces that it has signed with the PFK CSKA Moscow on contract the definitive acquisition of the rights to the player Seydou Doumbia, against a fixed fee, of 14.4 million euro, and variable, of 1.5 million euro, for bonuses linked to the achievement of certain sports.
"With the player signed a contract of employment up to June 30, 2019."
Doumbia will now join up with his international team-mate Gervinho at the Stadio Olimpico, just as soon as he returns from African Cup of Nations duty with The Elephants.
But it is not his mate that has him excited about joining Tottenham and not Roma. He is instead very excited to link up with Roma legend Francesco Totti. Goal.com report him as saying:
"I have chosen Roma for their offensive football and in order to play with a monster like Totti."
Tottenham's Harry Kane has been excellent this season but fellow strikers Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor are struggling for form and playing time.
