Southampton fans are delighted that James Ward-Prowse has committed his long-term future to the club.
The 20-year-old attacking midfielder put pen to paper on a new five-and-a-half year deal at St. Mary's earlier this morning and Southampton fans believe it is an indication of the progress they are making as a club.
The Saints have had to put up with losing some of their prized prospects early in their careers - with Theo Walcott, Gareth Bale, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers all leaving as teenagers in recent times. However, their ability to keep Ward-Prowse for the long-term is evidence of how attractive playing for the Saints has become.
Southampton are the envy of England with their sustainable structure being one that many sides try to emulate across the leagues and they are now one of the best teams in the country.
As such, there is hardly a better place for Ward-Prowse to develop and the club's supporters are certainly excited about his future.
The England youth international already plays a prominent role in the side and Ronald Koeman is likely to start building the team around Ward-Prowse's talents now he has committed his future.
The reassurance that he is staying for the long-term is something that Southampton supporters have been wanting for a long-time and they have reacted very positively on social media site Twitter today.
I think that the timing of the JWP signing was a bit of a goodbye present to Cork. 'Look what you could have won.' #saintsfc— The Archers Road End (@ArchersRoadEnd) January 30, 2015
Very pleased that JWP has signed, shame that Corky is going, should be an interesting few days to see if we get anyone in. #saintsfc— Jon Harris (@Funkyhound) January 30, 2015

Great to see JWP committing his future to Saints. Little sad to see Jack Cork go. Always gave 100% and I wish him well at Swansea. #saintsfc— Joseph Richardson (@Jj147Joseph) January 30, 2015
Great news about JWP. Top, top player. and even if it's asset protection it is a great move yet again by the board. #saintsfc— Chris Ingram (@ChrisIngram96) January 30, 2015
