Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Ryan Mason has told the club’s website he was delighted with the way the team took the sting out of the match against Sheffield United earlier this week.
Tottenham managed to setup a League Cup final against Chelsea and Mason says the side did well to quieten things down, with the Blades home support base creating an intimidating atmosphere.
“It was always going to be a proper cup tie – the weather was terrible, but in the first half I thought we did really well, we quietened the game down,” said Mason.
“Everyone’s excited to be in training and we’re all looking forward to Saturday now.”
Tottenham need to carry through the qualities they showed against Sheffield United, in terms of quieting difficult away games in the Premier League and Europa League over the rest of the season.
Home crowds can be very hostile for travelling sides and important lessons have been learned for the club, with Mauricio Pochettino’s team likely to face some difficult environments, especially in Europe over the next couple of months.
Starting matches well puts doubt into the minds of home supporters, which makes conditions more comfortable for the traveling side to go about their business.
It’s further encouraging that the momentum has been maintained in training this week and fingers crossed the team can register another three points and improve their position further in the race for the top four.
