With Aston Villa confirming the long-mooted signing of Scott Sinclair from Manchester City on a season-long loan deal, the claret and blue faithful have been taking to Twitter to give their take on the move.
Sinclair, 25, joined City from Swansea in 2012 for £6.2 million, but has since made just three starts in 19 total appearances for the Premier League champions.
The former England Under-21 international has seen just 29 minutes of action in four games this season, and has not featured for Manuel Pellegrini’s side since coming on late in the 2-2 draw with Burnley in December.
He spent last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion, but played just eight times in the Premier League after struggling with injuries.
Nevertheless, the ex-Chelsea product was highly-regarded during his time at Swansea, and even earned support for a senior England call-up after hitting 19 goals in 43 Championship games during the 2010-11 season to help fire the Swans to the top-flight.
Arriving with a view to a £2.5 million permanent move in the summer, Villa fans will hope the City outcast can get his once-promising career back on track in the West Midlands, with the following being a handful of the Twitter reactions to the deal.
Sinclair will be a great addition to #avfc he needs the game time!— Tom Slater (@TomSlater_) January 30, 2015
Like the signing of Sinclair, but we rarely play wide only when the fullbacks push on, hope signing a winger changes that #Avfc— Ian Andrew Birch (@ian_birch) January 30, 2015
If Sinclair can reproduce his Swansea form we're on to a good thing. #AVFC— Niloo (@Sriv_22) January 30, 2015
Sinclair has a loan spell at Birmingham a few years back so we should probably organise a protest at the gates of Villa Park. #avfc— Matt (@mattjames333) January 30, 2015
Sinclair is good signing, especially on loan. He was a quality player at Swansea, and you don't just lose that kind of ability. #AVFC— Daniel Bevington (@DanBevz) January 30, 2015
The last four players I can remember wearing number 9 at #avfc are Marlon Harewood, Stephen Ireland, Helenius & Scott Sinclair. Good.....— Rory Burnand (@rmjb08) January 30, 2015
I think Scott Sinclair is a good piece of business Villa, looked good before his Man City move, cheap as chips. Welcome to Villa #avfc— Anthony Webster (@Machiaveli1980) January 30, 2015
Signing of Sinclair makes sense, needs a chance and the responsibility is on him to perform #avfc— James Clark (@JamesMRClark) January 30, 2015
Gil & Sinclair, happy with that. Would be the best January transfer window we've had in a while if we could also get Ba #avfc— Just Brian (@Brian_Cook86) January 30, 2015
Great transfer window for villa, Sinclair and Gill in and new contract for delph #avfc— Alastair Cook (@alcook82) January 30, 2015
Sinclair loan with a view to buy- the best possible outcome. He has the opportunity to perform and if he does then we get him cheap... #AVFC— MattVillan (@dvtavfc) January 30, 2015
Lets hope Sinclair turns out more like Ashley Young and less like Simon Dawkins #avfc— Jamie Trigger (@_JT29) January 30, 2015
