Tottenham Hotspur defender DeAndre Yedlin showed intelligence in the build up to a USA goal against Chile last night.

Tottenham Hotspur defender DeAndre Yedlin produced a clever pass to help setup a goal for American teammate Jozy Altidore against Chile last night.

Chile won the match 3-2 after coming from behind on two occasions and there was an example of Yedlin’s intelligence and composure, which will please Spurs fans.

Under pressure from two Chilean players, he played a calm pass through to a teammate who cut the ball back for Altidore to slam home.

Yedlin’s pace makes him an asset going forward down the right hand side, but it’s encouraging he’s making the right decisions when he does get into advanced positions to aid the attack.

It’s important Mauricio Pochettino and the club work hard with him to maintain the positive parts of his game, while also addressing any weaknesses they feel he may have.

The match was also useful in terms of improving his match fitness and sharpness, meaning he stands a chance of making his Premier League debut for the club sooner as a result.

If he can merge all of his best qualities consistently, Tottenham have signed one hell of a defender from Seattle.
