Villarreal boss Marcelino Garcia Toral has confirmed that new loan signing Joel Campbell is in the squad list to face Getafe in the Copa Del Rey tonight, Spanish publication AS reports.
Campbell rarely featured for the North Londoners this season and regular first-team football in one of Europe’s major leagues will undoubtedly aid his development.
He joins the Yellow Submarines at a good time, and his first task will be to help his new club see off the challenge of Getafe in the the Copa Del Rey and set up a semi-final clash with Barcelona.
“Campbell is in the list, he’s ready to play. He can participate for some minutes or he may even start the match,” Marcelino told AS.
“Progressively, he will be adapting bit by bit in getting to know our game, the system and his new teammates etc. The group will make his arrival easier, and our game suits his characteristics.
“We will see his performance levels growing with time.”
The 22-year-old has La Liga experience, spending a loan-spell at Andalusia outfit Real Betis where he scored two goals in over 20 appearances.
He has become a much better player since then, and he could count himself unfortunate to miss out on a regular spot at the Emirates stadium due to the heavy competition for places.
The Valencian club represents a fine opportunity for Campbell to develop as a player and his eligibility to play in the Europa League is a welcome boost.
