New Arsenal signing Gabriel Paulista has told supporters they can expect him to show huge commitment and a willingness to improve the team, the club’s official website reports.
On joining the Gunners from Villarreal for a fee believed to be in excess of £15 million - according to the Mirror - the Brazilian defender took a Q&A session with supporters to reveal a bit more about himself.
In spite of his excellent performances in La Liga, Gabriel is probably unknown to most outside of Spain and a number of supporters at the Emirates will be eager to see what he can offer the team.
Described as a versatile player with strength and height, Gabriel could be forgiven for drumming up his defensive skills yet instead he told supporters they can expect a player ready to fight for the team.
“I am arriving at a big club and the fans can expect to find a Gabriel with a great will to help everyone. Not just thinking of me as an individual, because to me that is not important,” he explained.
“I care more about helping the team and my team-mates. I want to help everyone, so the fans can expect a Gabriel that on the field has a lot of will to be able to help the team win important things.”
Gabriel was a key member at Villarreal, helping the Valencian outfit go 18 games unbeaten in all competitions and rise to a lofty sixth position in the La Liga table.
According to renowned statistical website Whoscored.com, the 24-year-old averaged 3.5 interceptions and 4.5 effective clearances per league match – forming a formidable partnership with Mateo Musacchio.
He will provide Arsene Wenger’s side with much-needed cover across the back four and solid competition for a starting birth at centre-back.
