Arsenal have confirmed new signing Gabriel Paulista will wear the club's number five shirt.
Paulista's signing was confirmed by the club website on Wednesday evening, sealing his switch from La Liga side Villareal, for who he joined in 2013.
The deal has seen promising attacker Joel Campbell go the other way on a loan deal until the end of the current season.
Paulista has also had a work permit approved despite not being capped by Brazil, and adds crucial strength in depth to what was a depleted defence earlier this season due to various injuries.
The defender takes the number five shirt worn previously by Thomas Vermaelen, who left to join Barcelona in the summer, but is still yet to make his debut due to fitness struggles.
Previous players to wear the Arsenal number five shirt include Kolo Toure, Martin Keown, and assistant coach Steve Bould.
The new signing was welcomed last night by Mesut Ozil, who sent him a message of congratulations upon his transfer being completed, via Twitter.
