Alan Pardew has confirmed at his press conference today that Crystal Palace have signed Shola Ameobi.
Ameobi has been brought in on a free transfer and will be expected to help fire the Eagles away from relegation danger as the season enters its closing stages.
The Nigerian forward is ageing, but his experience could be key in Palace's survival fight and Pardew obviously believes he can be a good addition to the side.
Pardew is in a better position that most to judge, too, having worked with him previously at Newcastle United and will know the 33-year-old's talents well.
Ameobi spent 14 years at Newcastle before leaving the club last summer and is still fondly remembered on Tyneside.
The target-man became a cult figure at St. James' Park, but Newcastle supporters have given Palace fans a warning about expecting too much from their newest arrival.
Sanogo, mutch, ameobi.... I'm glad pardew had now say in transfers for #nufc— Adam (@Stavrosisco) January 29, 2015
Despite the scepticism from Magpies fans, Ameobi's arrival appears to have pleased most of the supporters at Palace.
Pardew has already worked hard to bring in a number of new targets and Ameobi joins a packed forward rank at Selhurst Park.
The powerful striker will compete for a place in the starting line-up with the likes of Dwight Gayle, Frazier Campbell, Glenn Murray, Yaya Sanago and Marouane Chamakh, but Palace fans are still excited to see him in action.
Here is the best reaction from Eagles supporters on Twitter.
So we have Shola Ameobi, Jordan Mutch and possibly Souare on their merry way down to Selhurst Park! Love it #CPFC— Jonathan Whitehead (@jonnywheat) January 29, 2015
Happy with the business we’ve done/doing. Shola will offer something different from the bench. Always liked Mutch as well #cpfc— Stuart Kelly (@stu_1984) January 29, 2015
