Leeds United legend Peter Lorimer has suggested in the Yorkshire Evening Post why it’s the perfect time for Sol Bamba to make his debut for the club.
Bamba is on loan from Italian club Palermo and Lorimer feels he can be a good signing for the Whites.
“Huddersfield have some good strikers in James Vaughan and Nahki Wells and this is the ideal time to introduce someone with Bamba’s height and strength,” he wrote.
“As signings go, Bamba looks to me like a step forward. He’s coming from Serie A and he’s got prior experience of the Championship. We’re talking about someone with pedigree.”
Bamba will be under pressure from the get-go if he starts against Huddersfield because Leeds come off the back of a solid result against Bournemouth.
Neil Redfearn will want his team to carry their momentum forward and it won’t be easy considering the likely chance that Huddersfield will be out for revenge after a 3-0 defeat against Leeds from earlier in the season.
Redfearn seems to have been searching for his best defensive partnership since he was appointed as head coach on a long term basis.
Bamba’s physical strength, his pace and his commanding presence are all qualities, which should allow him to force his way into the first choice pairing.
It’s a real test because Huddersfield will target him.
As Lorimer points out, Huddersfield have the players who can give him problems physically and as he’s a new signing playing in a new team, it would be naïve of Chris Powell’s team not to try and exploit him.
If he endures it, takes it on the chin and Leeds emerge as winners. The Whites could be onto something.
