Engage in the cutthroat capitalist conquest of Mars

Soren Johnson, lead designer on Civilization IV has founded a new studio called Mohawk Games and their first game, Offworld Trading Company has just been unleashed upon the world.

Said to be a “fast-paced, cutthroat economic competition,” Offworld Trading Company is an economically focused real time strategy in which pioneering entrepreneurs have taken to Mars. In place of pitched battles, players in OTC fight for supremacy of corporate markets, sometimes not without some shady goings on.

According to the announcement blurb. “The real-time, player-driven market is the foundation of the game, allowing players to buy and sell resources, materials, and even the food and water their colonists need to survive. Only by buying low and selling high – and perhaps engaging in a little more overt market manipulation with hacker arrays, black-market pirate raids, and more – can players build up enough capital to gain access to the incredibly lucrative offworld markets that bring in the cash they need to buy out their rivals and claim the Martian economy for themselves.”

Interested parties will be able to partake in the corporate take over of Mars from the 12th February when the game hits Steam Early Access. Pre-orders for this are available here.

The Early Access version will come with all three modes planned in the final release, with a single-player campaign, internet multiplayer and Ai Skirmishes all ready for the playing.

Mohawk is seeking to gather community feedback from OTC’s Early Access and to keep people updated a weekly livestream will be showing every Thursday at midday Pacific Time.
