Christian Eriksen: Spurs need to stop giving stupid goals away

The 22-year-old knows his Tottenham Hotspur side need to sharpen up in defence.

Christian Eriksen says Tottenham need to stop giving stupid goals away this season, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Dane was once again on hand to score a late goal for his side in their Capital One Cup semi-final second leg against Sheffield United. That added to his earlier strike for Spurs and took his side through to the final after a 3-2 win on aggregate.

In between, however, Tottenham conceded two Che Adams goals and were trailing on the night before the 22-year-old yet again came to the north London side's aid.

And Eriksen says Tottenham simply have to stop conceding such goals as they have made a habit of doing so in winning positions so far this term.

“Sheffield United definitely gave us a big fright. They gained confidence after they scored their first goal. The second one was a bit lucky, but we came back at the end," Eriksen said after the match.

“This season, when we’ve been in front, we’ve given stupid goals away and it’s something we need to stop doing.”

Spurs will face Chelsea in the League Cup final at Wembley, who themselves played out a close semi-final tie with Liverpool - winning by one goal after extra-time (although they also would have already gone through on away goals).

Tottenham lost to the Blues at Stamford Bridge earlier this season but then secured a memorable victory against them at White Hart Lane a month later.
