Music Unlimited to make way for the popular MP3 app on PlayStations 3 and 4

Sony has joined forces with Spotify to bring a new music service called PlayStation Music to PS3 and PS4.

Trumpeting in the new app VP of Sony Network Entertainment, Eric Lempel, noted that “We know how important music is to our community of gamers, and this partnership combines the best in music with the best in gaming,” adding that. “PlayStation Network users will enjoy the convenience of linking your accounts to Spotify, making it easy to sign-up with your existing ID and subscribe to Spotify’s Premium service.”

Lempel let on that PS4 users will be able to run Spotify in the background whilst gaming. A reveal of more exclusive features has also been promised closer to the PlayStation Music launch.

The new music app is initially going to be available for PS3, PS4 and Xperia smartphones and tablets in spring 2015.

As PlayStation Music moves in, Sony will be sending its MP3 streaming service, Music Unlimited out of the door. The service will officially end on March 29th this year. Those who are paid up subscribers as of February 28th 2015 will be able to use Music Unlimited for free until it closes down.
