According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United have offered Stevenage Borough centre back Ryan Johnson the chance to impress coaching staff at Carrington with a one-week trial.
The 18-year-old, who broke the record to become Stevenage’s youngest ever debutant, has been impressive for the League Two side this season and has caught the attention of United scouts.
After his debut, on the last game of the season in League One last season, the experienced Graham Westley praised his performance despite playing him out of position.
‘’Ryan had a great debut, he will be pleased and I am chuffed to see him do so well.’’ Westley told the Hertfordshire Mercury.
‘’You could argue when you have got one or two young players in the side there is a danger that concentration levels and maybe fitness levels are going to lapse here and there,.
‘’I think Ryan was a beacon out there this afternoon. He shone really bright. I thought he was strong, he was disciplined, he did his job. I thought he looked comfortable out there.’’
Although he hasn’t started a first-team game for promotion hopefuls this season, he has made a mark in the youth team and has shown his ability when called upon in late cameos in the Football League.
If he is to win a deal with United, it is likely the youngster would be placed in the Under-19 side with the potential of growing into the top-tier of youth team football, the Under-21s.
