Chelsea and Manchester United loanees can follow in international star’s footsteps, claims Stuart Gray

Sheffield Wednesday manager Stuart Gray believes Will Keane and Lewis Baker can improve at Hillsborough similar to Everton and England star Ross Barkley.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Stuart Gray told that he is happy with Manchester United and Chelsea duo Will Keane and Lewis Baker and hopes they can follow in the same footsteps as Ross Barkley.

Both players started as a possession dominant Wednesday could only muster one shot on target in the 0-0 draw against an in-form Birmingham City. However, the Wednesday boss wasn’t too downbeat about the result and in his post-match interview praised both Manchester United and Chelsea loaness.

Speaking to, Gray commented: ‘’I thought they [Baker and Keane] did well. Their ball retention was very good, with Will providing a good outlet up top. they are talented players and we are a good club where they can develop their game.

‘’You only have to look at the likes of Ross Barkley and Connor Wickham and how they progressed in their time with us so hopefully Will and Lewis will do the same.’’

In the game, statistically, both were the best passers of the ball between the two sides. Keane recorded a very impressive 95.5% success rate, while Baker recorded 83.9%.

Nevertheless, both players will be disappointed not to have made a bigger impact in an attacking sense as both failed to register a shot on target. Keane failed to have any kind of shot in the match, according to Opta, while Baker’s only shot on goal failed to hit the target.

The Sheffield-based side will get another chance to claw themselves back into the play-off race on Saturday when they play a Reading side low on confidence. Although three points wouldn’t move them up the table, as they’re five points off next placed side Norwich, it would put them back the fight to become the dark horse for promotion.
