Report: Striker Shola Ameobi set to reunite with Pardew at Crystal Palace

Reports tonight suggest ex-Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi has chosen a move to Crystal Palace.

According to the Daily Mail, ex-Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi is set to return to the Premier League with a move to Crystal Palace.

The 33-year-old, who represented Nigeria at last summer's World Cup, left Newcastle for Turkish side Gaziantep BB in August 2014, but lasted just four months before being released so he could return to English football.

Ameobi's record with Newcastle stood at 79 goals in 397 games before finally leaving Tyneside, and it's little surprise to see plenty of interest in his signature given that he's now a free agent.

West Bromwich Albion were reportedly looking to bring Ameobi to The Hawthorns, with Tony Pulis keen to reunite with the striker having worked with him at Stoke in 2008.

Then, reports on Tuesday night suggested that Queens Park Rangers had made a late bid to hijack Ameobi's move to Selhurst Park.

However, the Daily Mail are tonight reporting that Ameobi has agreed a deal to reunite with his former Newcastle boss Alan Pardew at Crystal Palace.

The Eagles have recently been linked with moves for Blackburn's Rudy Gestede and Swansea's Bafetimbi Gomis, so it's clear that Pardew has been looking for a physical, target man presence in attack.

In Ameobi, he would certainly have that, and given that he comes on a free transfer as opposed to millions of pounds, it makes sense for Pardew and Ameobi to reunite in South London.
