Moussa Sissoko has hinted in the Northern Echo that he’d consider the opportunity to leave the club and fulfil his personal ambitions.
The Echo has carried quotes from Sissoko where he suggests he’d find it difficult to ignore an approach from French giants Paris Saint-Germain because he wants to play in the Champions League.
“Today, PSG are one of the best clubs in Europe. If they are interested in me, then I would have to think with my agent,” said the midfielder.
“These would be difficult things to refuse. I would think. I cannot say yes or no.”
“I want to play in it (the Champions League). I want to be involved in big games. If I have to leave Newcastle, then that is something that I would take into consideration.”
Newcastle stand a good chance of keeping him beyond the current transfer window, but they are under pressure to break into Europe if they want to keep him long term.
That’s made more difficult by the club’s recent decision to hand John Carver control of the team until the end of the season.
It’s arguable that the Newcastle board could be considering making a high profile managerial appointment in the summer.
If that’s the case, Carver’s main job will be to keep the club in the Premier League and to help them retain a strong position both on and off the pitch.
Newcastle will need a blinding second half of the season to firstly get close to the top six and then secondly, to break into it.
If a big offer comes in for Sissoko over the next few days, the club would more than likely listen to it but a departure in the summer seems more likely.
