The Portuguese winger is currently on loan at Sporting from Manchester United.
Nani signed a season-long loan deal with his former club at the start of the season, and has impressed during his stay in Portugal.
Cast out of the Red Devils squad by head coach Louis van Gaal, the winger may have hoped that a run of consistently good form may have allowed him to fight his way back into the United fold by the expiration of his loan.
The 28-year-old international has made 22 appearances this term in all competitions, scoring eight goals and registering six assists, and his form in the Champions League proved that Nani could still make it at the top level of the game.
However, his future at Old Trafford looks increasingly bleak, and a report in A Bola suggests that Nani has been offered on loan to Sporting for another year.
The report indicates that United are unwilling to keep paying his large wages, and have been looking to sell him outright in the summer. However, with other clubs put off by the wage packet, they may be forced into loaning him out for a second successive year, and Sporting is the most likely destination.
With Nani’s contract keeping him at the club until the summer of 2018 - as per the BBC - United will have to keep hold of their high-value asset for a number of seasons yet. With no place at Old Trafford in van Gaal’s plans, it is likely that he will remain out on loan until his contract is up, or that the Red Devils will supplement a portion of his wages at a new club if they intend to sell him permanently before that date.
