Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has been quoted by City AM explaining what winning the League Cup would mean for his side.
Spurs go into the second leg of their semi-final against Sheffield United as the slight favourites after a 1-0 win in the first game between the teams in North London and the Argentine is hopeful his team can push on and win the competition.
“We have a chance to go through to the final and if we win a trophy in March, it can have a big impact on the rest of the season,” said Pochettino.
Outside the League Cup, Spurs have priorities in the Premier League and the Europa League.
Winning the League Cup would arguably have the biggest beneficial knock on effect in relation to the Europa League, because it would have been physical proof to the players they have what it takes to win a long, knock-out based competition.
It will also strengthen the winning mentality in a team, which has been inconsistent at times this season.
It also creates positive knock on effects for the boss and the players in terms of the fans, a little bit happier and louder heading into big games, with some silverware and success to boast about.
All Tottenham have to do is back up their favourites tag this evening and then produce a similar performance to the one, which saw them see off Chelsea earlier this season in that 5-3 victory.
It will then be a case of sit back and reap the rewards.
