Clough selects four key players who can make a difference for Tottenham

Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough says there are four players who can make a difference for Tottenham Hotspur this evening.

Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough has told the Sheffield Star who he feels Tottenham’s key players are ahead of the League Cup semi-final second leg this evening.

Clough has suggested that the atmosphere at Brammall Lane will be something that Tottenham Hotspur’s key players aren’t used to, other than four members of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

“It’s a different kind of atmosphere and a different kind of football than they’re used to (some Spurs stars),” said Clough.

“If you look through Spurs’ team, there’s a few lads who’ve been out on loan and they’ll know what it’s about.”

“Danny Rose, (Aaron) Lennon, Mason who’s a good young English midfielder and Kyle Walker, they’ve got a few with that sort of experience and they’re probably going to need it.”

It’s arguable that fans at lower league level feel a greater association with their clubs because they enjoy a closer relationship with them, due to smaller profiles.

That can make those fans extremely passionate about their team in times of adversity or heading into games, like the one this evening, where they’re side are not considered favourites against a bigger, higher quality of opposition.

What Clough seems to be getting at is that the quartet he’s mentioned all have experience of what playing in front of a Football League crowd is like as opposed to a Premier League one.

However, regardless of the supporters being perceived as an advantage for his team by Clough, Mauricio Pochettino will back the quality of his players to shine through.

If Spurs start the game professionally and make the most of their chances, they can quickly silence a stadium.
