Alone In the Dark: Illumination moves into the light of beta

Alone In The Dark Illumination

You can put Atari’s revival of the Alone in the Dark franchise through its paces from tomorrow

Atari has announced the first closed beta test for Alone in the Dark: Illumination is kicking off tomorrow, January 29th.

Putting in a pre-purchase for the game on Steam will get you automatic access to the test, in which you can check out the Hunter character and the first campaign in single-player mode. Atari is promising one more beta test in the weeks leading up to the game’s launch, which looks to include the game's new co-op mode.

“Alone in the Dark has a passionate following of players who have kept up with the series since the original 1992 release,” said Atari Chief Exec Fred Chesnais. “By introducing cooperative multiplayer, this new game engages the nostalgic fan-base and introduces a new generation of PC gamers to the franchise. We have a long-term plan for Alone in the Dark and there will be much more to come.”

“With the introduction of a single-player mode with the merciless Hunter, within the first environment, the menacing Coal Mine, we are laying the foundation of Alone in the Dark: Illumination,” added Atari Senior Product Lead Peter Banks. “Subsequent updates will introduce new, compelling elements building on this first beta period. The multiplayer mode will also enhance the strategic light-based gameplay, complement the diverse character capabilities, and ensure ongoing fun.”

Alone in the Dark: Illumination is currently due to launch for PC in spring 2015.
