Arsenal legend Robert Pires told Goal, as quoted by the Daily Mail, that he believes Santi Cazorla has proven to be Arsenal’s best signing and has been the club’s best player for the past few months.
The 41-year-old, who won two Premier League titles with Arsenal, revealed he thought the influential Spaniard had been the most important player for Arsene Wenger’s side this season, even more so than Sanchez, and that all the players signed by the Gunners have quality.
‘’To me, Arsenal’s best signing is Santi Carzola,’’ said Robert Pires.
‘’Fans love Alexis Sanchez, and so do I; he’s quick to adapt to the Premier League – but Cazorla is so important. For the last few months, he’s been our best player.’’
As Pires stated, the 30-year-old has been one of the Gunners best players in recent weeks and the performances against both Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA cup and Manchester City in the Premier League are testament to his ability.
Nevertheless, the comment that Cazorla has had more of an impact than Sanchez for Arsenal this season is one that will split opinion.
Sanchez, who has 12 goals and seven assists from 21 appearances in the Premier League this season, is widely considered to be the key man at the Emirates. Whereas Cazorla, who has five goals and four assists in the same amount of time, is considered to be threat but not on the same level as his teammate.
Regardless of who is the more influential for Arsenal, Wenger will need both players on top of their game going into the final third of the season if they are to cement their place inside the Premier League’s top four.
