One of those nights for us, gutted about the result. Good to get 60 minutes after injury tho. pic.twitter.com/APAeA22H1p— Ryan McLaughlin (@RyanMcL2) January 26, 2015
Liverpool academy product Ryan McLaughlin returned to action last night as he played 60 minutes against Manchester United in a hard fought Under-21 Premier League match.
United were able to name the likes of Nick Powell, Jesse Lingard and Victor Valdes in their starting XI, while the Reds had Jordon Ibe and Jerome Sinclair in theirs.
The Red Devils started the match the stronger and got a well-deserved goal through former Crewe Alexandra attacker Powell, who rose the highest at the back post to head home and give United the opener. However, less than 10 minutes later, Jerome Sinclair came up with the goods for Liverpool and sent the two teams into the half-time level.
Paddy McNair got the winner just minutes after the second half kicked off and Warren Joyce's side held their ground to the frustration of the Liverpool players who failed to find the equaliser.
McLaughlin started at right back for the Reds and came off around the hour mark for 17-year-old attacking midfielder Madger Antonio Gomes Aju when Michael Beale’s side were chasing the game.
Now back from injury, the Liverpool hierarchy must now make a decision whether to send the youngster out on-loan, save him for the Under-21 Premier League side or even give him a chance at first-team football.
If, as suspected, the youngster is to be made available for a loan then he may have to prove his fitness to potential suitors.
