Samuel Eto'o leaves heartfelt goodbye message to Everton fans

The Cameroonian has joined Sampdoria after just half a season at Everton.

In the summer Everton pulled off a coup by bringing in former Barcelona and Inter Milan forward Samuel Eto'o on a free transfer after his release from Chelsea.

His acquisition looked a shrewd one and he put in some fantastic performances for the club. Games against Burnley and Krasnodar in particular highlighted his excellent natural ability.

But his presence was holding back the likes of Ross Barkley and in the New Year his playing time decreased massively. He has not played in 2015 and a move away has now looked on the cards for a while.

That move was confirmed by the club today. Sampdoria claimed they had signed the player over the weekend and a picture of him in the Genoa based club's shirt seemed to confirm the news.

Everton however only officially confirmed the deal today and now Eto'o has had his say.

He has taken to his official Instagram account to show his heartfelt appreciation to the Everton fans, for whom he was looking like becoming a cult hero, before his time at the club seemingly took a turn for the worse.

He stated:

"Dear Toffees,

"I've been blessed to spend these past few months with you.

"To my pleasure, I have discovered here a crowd of warm, passionate, affectionate and supportive fans... It's time for me to leave, but wherever I go, I will bring with me all the memories we've built together.

"A special "Thank You" to the Everton staff who helped me settle down and of course to our manager Roberto, who made all of that possible.

"It was an honour to be part of your army.

"You will always be in my heart.

"Yours Sincerely,

"Samuel Eto'o."

Everton fans will certainly wish him all the best in his new adventure in Genoa, but will also have a sour taste in their mouth as he could have been a fantastic star for Everton in time.
