Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a surprise deal to sign Valencia defender Joao Pereira.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Arsenal are looking to bring Valencia right back Joao Pereira to the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners snapped up Calum Chambers and Mathieu Debuchy last summer, but with Carl Jenkinson potentially staying at West Ham permanently, another right back may be on Arsene Wenger's shopping list - even with the emergence of Hector Bellerin.

Reports now suggest that another La Liga defender could arrive in North London, with Villarreal's Gabriel Paulista on the verge of completing his move to the Emirates Stadium.

Now, it's Valencia's Pereira on the radar, with TMW suggesting that the Gunners could bring the Portuguese international to the club in a bid to add more depth to his defence.

Pereira, 30, joined Valencia from Sporting Lisbon back in 2012 having impressed at the European Championships, and has made 40 appearances for Portugal as a mainstay of their defence.

Yet, this season, Pereira has been frozen out at Valencia, with manager Nuno preferring to use either Antonio Barragan or Joao Cancelo at right back.

Valencia sporting director Francisco Rufete confirmed earlier this season that Pereira will leave the club, whether it be in January or at the end of his contract this summer.

The Spaniards will therefore put up little fight if Arsenal do look to bring Pereira to the club, but Tutto Mercato Web do also note that the Gunners have other names on their shortlist too.
