The Sunderland Echo has reported that winger Adam Johnson is set to boost Gus Poyet’s side ahead of the important weekend game against Burnley.
Johnson has been out of action with a calf problem and Poyet has told the paper he’s hopeful that the winger will be able to play a part in the game.
Johnson is one of the most talented attacking players at the club’s disposal and he provides a number of different threats for any opposition side to deal with.
He’s effective coming in off of the right hand side to shoot on his left foot and he’s also shown this season that he’s got it in his locker to be effective from central positions.
Sunderland are under pressure heading into the game because there’s little separating the side from a position in the relegation places.
The risk Poyet has to assess taking is whether to throw Johnson in from the start or whether to use him as an impact player late in the game.
If he chooses the former then Johnson’s calf problem could reoccur, but the stakes are higher than ever for the team.
