New World of Warcraft patch lets you take selfies

World of Warcraft toons cover

The social media phenomenon extends to WoW with the game’s S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera item

Blizzard has launched World of Warcraft’s next major update, 6.1 on the game’s Public Test Realm for players to try out before it goes live.

Available now is the new S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera item allowing you to take flattering snapshots of your toons to share with the world. The item is rewarded for completing a level 100 garrison mission called Field Photography. When you use the camera, the view will flip round to you character’s face who will pull faces for you to capture. Check out the video below for some WoW selfie action.

In addition to this, once you’ve got your S.E.L.F.I.E. camera you unlock a second mission called Lens Some Hands which rewards you with the S.E.L.F.I.E. Lens Upgrade Kit. Adding this to your camera upgrades it to the S.E.L.F.I.E Camera MkII, giving you some Instagram-esque filters to play around with.

The new feature looks to fit well with the WoW Twitter integration coming in update 6.1, which will allow you to tweet items, achievements and screenshots directly from within the game client.

Also available in the patch are updated Blood Elf models, the Heirloom Collections tab and several changes to Garrisons. New visitors will come to your WoW real estate to offer quests, there’ll be the ability to summon a world boss, a music box and a new Treasure Hunter trait the offers new missions and increases the amount of gold you receive from them.
