Manchester United fans react on Twitter to Valdes performance for the under-21s

Victor Valdes

Manchester United fans were treated to their first sight of Victor Valdes in club colours last night.

Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes made his debut for the club last night in a 2-1 win for the club’s under-21 side against Liverpool.

Valdes signed a contract earlier this season after training with the United first team, as Louis van Gaal secured him to be David De Gea’s deputy for as long as he’s at the club.

Valdes suffered a horrendous knee injury, which brought his Barcelona career to an abrupt and unfortunate end and last night was the first opportunity for some fans to see him up close and to study his performance in United colours.

He’ll definitely add a winning mentality into the United first team when he plays because of how successful he was throughout his Barcelona career.

His experience at the back will also be key in terms of structuring the defence and organising the backline based on what he sees developing during normal time.

He often played in a Barcelona team, which split the centre backs and pushed the full backs further up the pitch.

That means he’s used to seeing space between his central defenders, which has been evident when United have used a three at the back system throughout the season.

United will also be more than likely looking to play on his determination and mentality to succeed and get back onto a platform where he can prove to fans all over the world that he’s not finished in terms of top flight football.

That competition for De Gea is one of the things that van Gaal would have been looking to create and if anything, the two top choice ‘keepers are only going to make each other better over the rest of the season, with United looking to get back into the Champions League.

Here’s what United fans on Twitter made of the Spaniard’s performance.
