Arsenal's Costa Rica international took to Twitter following his loan move to Villarreal.
Arsenal forward Joel Campbell has taken to Twitter following his loan move to Spanish side Villarreal.
The 22-year-old’s last loan spell – at Greek side Olympiakos – was a huge success as the Costa Roca international scored 11 goals and provided 12 assists to suggest he had a bright future back in North London.
But despite an impressive World Cup campaign, Campbell has been unable to hit the heights at Arsenal, making 10 appearances this season in all competitions but failing to score or assist.
That has seen him follow fellow forward Yaya Sanogo out of the club on loan, with Campbell heading to Spanish side Villarreal until June.
Writing on Twitter following the move, Campbell said he was “excited with this new challenge” before going on to write a special message to everyone connected with Arsenal.
“Thanks for the whole family of Arsenal for their messages,” he wrote. “I hope to make them proud.”
Given his age and his ability there is every chance Campbell could ultimately become an effective starter for the Gunners further down the line.
But with the likes of Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez all ahead of him in the pecking order for now, another temporary stint away from the Emirates Stadium makes sense.
