Everton supporters have been left disappointed to see Samuel Eto'o leave the club after his transfer to Sampdoria was confirmed today.
Eto'o arrived at Goodison Park last summer amid high expectations, but the move never worked out and he was only on Merseyside for a brief period of time.
His departure has been a source of frustration for Toffees supporters, who were looking forward to seeing such a high profile player represent them.
During his time with Everton, Eto'o made 20 appearances, but his return of four goals suggests that he is starting to age.
At 33-years-old, the Cameroon international has lost his electric pace and seems a shadow of his former self.
Romelu Lukaku was regularly chosen ahead of him to lead the line by Roberto Martinez, while Steven Naismith and Ross Barkley were generally preferred in an attacking midfield role and his return to Italy can hardly come as a surprise.
It has still left many Everton fans wondering exactly where a move which promised so much went so badly wrong and they feel that a new signing will be needed to cover the loss of one of their more experienced stars.
Here is the best reaction from Toffees fans to Eto'o's departure on social media site Twitter.
Even now, many squads with Eto'o in are stronger than without him. Praying we bring a replacement in this window a fifth as good #efc— Gary Gil23 (@gazinho23) January 27, 2015
I don't get it. Why on earth didn't we give Eto'o more game time? #efc— Physics (@PhysicsDJ) January 27, 2015
Wish Eto'o all the best it has been an honour to see him playing in a blue shirt #efc— Stephen Haselden (@stephenh95) January 27, 2015
As great as it was to see Eto'o in the royal blue, it's been equally as disappointing the way he's conducted himself ahead of the move #EFC— Gary Porter (@DailyPostGary) January 27, 2015
Come on then Roberto. I'm over the loss of Eto'o. He was class on the pitch but not off it allegedly. Who's gunna fill his boots? #efc— Richard Berry (@Bez1977) January 26, 2015
Let's face it. Whether he wanted to go or not, Everton have just rolled over in this Eto'o deal..... #EFC— Ian Croll (@Iancroll1) January 26, 2015
I thought Eto'o was going to teach us everything he knew. Did he not know very much???? #EFC— Emma Shrimplin (@Shrimpers76) January 25, 2015
Misuse in midfield turned early Eto'o positives into a transfer more pointless by the week. Even so, sale only increases need for new faces.— Luke O'Farrell (@lukeofarrell) January 27, 2015
