Wolves winger on why reported interest in Bakay Sako must be rebuffed

Rajiv van La Parra says it is vital that Wolverhampton Wanderers retain the services of Bakary Sako if they are to reach the Premier League.

Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Rajiv van La Parra has told the Express and Star that it is vital for Bakary Sako to be kept at Molineux.

The Daily Mail has suggested that the Mali international is attracting interest from Wolves’ local rivals West Bromwich Albion.

With his contract due to expire at the end of the season, it comes as no surprise to find Premier League clubs are being linked with an approach.

Wolves, though, have no intention of parting with a prized asset, even if they are running the risk of seeing him leave as a free agent in the summer.

They would rather retain Sako and look to him to help fire them into promotion contention.

Van La Parra believes the 26-year-old is capable of doing that, with his fellow wideman a key cog in the Wolves machine.

He said in the Express and Star: “I think for us it’s very important because we want to go for promotion and he’s a very important player for us to help us get to the Premier League. So from my point of view, it’s very important for him to stay here.”

Wolves sit just outside the Championship play-off places at present.

They are on a fine run of form, though, and are just three points adrift of Watford in sixth.

Van La Parra is right to suggest that Sako could be the man to force Kenny Jackett’s side into the promotion picture, with the highly-rated forward Wolves’ most potent attacking weapon this season.
