Report: Cardiff City target Stoke defender

Robert Huth

Manager Russel Slade is reportedly targeting a deal for Robert Huth.

Cardiff City are targeting a deal for Stoke City defender Robert Huth, according to BBC Sport.

The report states that Bluebirds manager Russel Slade has previously said he wants to sign 'one or two' players before the January transfer window shuts and that German defender Huth is one of them.

Huth, 30, has not started a Premier League game this season for the Potters, making just one appearance as a substitute. Otherwise, his game time has been limited to cup competitions, in which he has so far made three appearances for Mark Hughes.

His chances of improving that number of minutes in the future look slim as well, with new loan signing Philipp Wollscheid providing extra competition for a starting berth and impressing in his debut against Arsenal earlier in the month.

The former Germany international has made over 150 appearances for Stoke since joining from Middlesbrough in a £5 million deal back in 2009, before that he had a four-year spell at Chelsea.

Earlier this month, manager Mark Hughes admitted that the defender needs game time and the club would be looking to send him out on loan to get that, according to the Guardian. However, the Welshman played down suggestions his time at the club was coming to an end.
