Roma striker Mattia Destro - a reported target for Tottenham - is allegedly set to undergo a medical with AC Milan.
Having allowed Fernando Torres to join Atletico Madrid on loan in exchange for Italian international Alessio Cerci, Pippo Inzaghi's men still need a new striker, and Destro could be that man amid the latest speculation.
Reports from Tutto Mercato Web earlier on Monday suggested that Tottenham were in discussions with Roma over a potential swap deal which would have seen Destro head to White Hart Lane in exchange for Romanian defender Vlad Chiriches.
However, Spurs could now miss out on the Italian international, with Milan now seemingly leading the race for Destro's signature.
The 23-year-old has hit 24 goals goals in 57 games, but has largely been a substitute under Rudi Garcia, so it's little surprise to see the Italian international linked with the exit.
Meanwhile, Chiriches has also been on the sidelines, with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino preferring to use Federico Fazio and Jan Vertonghen in the heart of his defence, and whilst he started at right back against Leicester City on Saturday in the FA Cup, the 25-year-old may still leave White Hart Lane.
There's still time for Tottenham to hijack the deal given that the alleged medical would only take place on Wednesday, but it's certainly a blow to their hopes of signing Destro.
