Chelsea are monitoring Rennes midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure amid speculation over the future of Ramires, the Daily Star reports.
Brazilian international Ramires has spent most of the season watching from the sidelines, as Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas hold down a regular midfield partnership at Stamford Bridge.
The 27-year-old used to be one of the first names on the teamsheet in years gone by, but his situation now has prompted questions to be asked over his future.
While Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho remains uninterested in allowing his players to leave in January, perhaps he has a potential Ramires exit in the summer in mind amid reports seeking a potential replacement.
As per an article published by the Daily Star on Sunday, the West London outfit have identified Rennes star Doucoure, who is said to be valued at around £4 million.
“Chelsea are watching Rennes midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure. He offers box-to-box running and the potential summer sales of Ramires and Jon Obi Mikel could create space for him in Jose Mourinho's squad,” the Daily Star reports.
Doucoure, 22, is recognised at international level for the France U21s and has been a regular for Rennes this season, donning the number 10 shirt.
In 17 Ligue 1 encounters so far this campaign, he has scored once and has a further three assists to his name – topping the club’s assist charts alongside Paul-Georges Ntep.
