The versatile 19-year-old will play for Charlton over the rest of the season and he’s revealed that it was the club’s manager Guy Luzon who dissuaded him from settling for a place in the squad at White Hart Lane.
“I spoke to the gaffer and he gave me his opinion. I thought with his opinion that I can play games here so that made me decide to come,” said Veljkovic.
“He needed me in this position in midfield. He told me what he wants from me and I agreed.”
The most important thing as far as Tottenham, Charlton and the player are concerned is that he’s playing games.
For Spurs it’s a win-win situation because they get to see one of their players continuing to progress and develop as first team boss Mauricio Pochettino would be hoping for.
For Charlton it’s a win-win situation because they’ve snapped up a player, thanks to their gaffer, who can play in the back four or in a holding role at the base of the midfield.
It seems as though he’ll predominantly be used in a midfield role based on his comments but he should get the opportunity to develop in the back four and the middle four.
For the player it’s a win-win situation because he gets to play more than was the case at Middlesbrough earlier in the season and more than would be the case had he stayed at Tottenham.
It’s now over to him to make the most of the opportunities he’s given and to put pressure on Pochettino when he heads back to Tottenham.
