Tottenham Hotspur’s under-21 side took on their Leicester City counterparts on Monday afternoon, just a few days after the two senior sides contested a FA Cup fourth round match.
The Foxes ultimately won that encounter 2-1 courtesy of two late goals to cancel out an Andros Townsend penalty, but this time the two younger sides shared the spoils with a 0-0 draw.
Among the Tottenham teenagers on show were Harry Winks, Josh Onomah and Emmanuel Sonupe, and the latter went tantalisingly close to breaking the deadlock only to see his effort strike the crossbar.
That moment was captured on camera, with the picture later posted on Tottenham’s official Twitter account.
Sonupe was recently filmed taking part in a little shooting practice with first-team player Roberto Soldado, and the 18-year-old showed the Spaniard how to do it on that occasion, finishing some fine efforts to suggest he could get a chance in Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team plans a little further down the line.
For now he has to make do with under-21 action, but Tottenham have a number of exciting young talents at their disposal and next season could see even more of them break through.
