Ezequiel Munoz has not featured for Palermo recently, having previously been linked with a possible move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Italian website TMW has published comments from the manager of Palermo in relation to alleged Tottenham Hotspur target Ezequiel Munoz.

The same website linked Spurs with the 24-year-old Argentine defender last month, and now his club boss Giuseppe Iachini has been speaking about the reason he left the player out of his recent squad.

Munoz has made 14 appearances for Palermo this season and has even captained the side in recent Serie A matches against Torino and Sassuolo. But he was only on the bench for the match against AS Roma and was not included in the squad for the game with Sampdoria a week later.

With Tottenham among those said to be interested in the centre-back, it has now been suggested that the speculation may have had an impact on the player’s performances.

“With the pressure of these rumours maybe he’s been quiet in some games,” Iachini said of his defender.

“Talking with him, we decided to see how the market evolved. Let’s see what happens in the coming days.”

W all the rumours flying about during the January transfer window, it is no surprise that some players can see their performance levels drop as a result.

With just a few days left it seems unlikely that Tottenham will move for Munoz now, especially with Federico Fazio and Jan Vertonghen impressing at the heart of their defence and a number of other centre-backs still on their books. But only time will tell.
