How Pochettino's experiment with Vlad Chiriches has been a success

Tottenham Hotspur defender Vlad Chiriches may have saved his White Hart Lane career in recent months.

Tottenham Hotspur's Vlad Chiriches may have forced his way off the transfer list by proving that he can be adequate cover at right-back.

The Romanian defender was tipped to be on the verge of a move to Roma earlier in the transfer window by Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, but he has begun to prove his worth for the side.

Although Chiriches may never be a first-choice starter in his preferred position at the heart of the defence, with his performances often looking erratic there, he is coping admirably in a new role.

The 25-year-old appears to be Mauricio Pochettino's first-reserve for the right-back slot, should Kyle Walker get injured, and his displays there have proven that he can perform a function.

Although he is far from the perfect defender, he does have the qualities needed to be a decent squad player for Spurs and his versatility is an asset.

Although Tottenham fans will be keen to see DeAndre Yedlin, a recent transfer from Seattle Sounders, come into the team, the American has made a huge step-up and Chiriches looks a safer option for the time being.

As a result, he may just have saved his White Hart Lane career and, although he is never likely to be a key star for the side, he finally has a defined role to perform in the team.
