Aston Villa got back to winning ways in fine style at the weekend, defeating Championship leaders Bournemouth 2-1 in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Recent signing Carles Gil opened the scoring with a fine effort to show just what a special player Paul Lambert has signed, and Andreas Weimann scored a vital second to ensure Callum Wilson’s late effort was a mere consolation.
Weimann played the entire match and scored his first goal since the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, taking his tally for the season to four goals in 24 appearances.
Villa have endured a miserable run of form of late, failing to score in the Premier League for five matches, but Gil and Weimann gave their supporters something to smile about on a day when Fabian Delph also committed his long-term future to the club.
After the match we took to Twitter to see what Villa fans thought of Weimann’s latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Great goal by Gil, Okore was beastly and Weimann is still rubbish despite scoring #avfc— Luke Archer (@LukeArcher6) January 26, 2015
Gil is exactly what we've been missing, and Weimann looked good on the left and being a little more advanced. Still think we need one more— Daniel Raza (@dhraza) January 25, 2015
Good finish by Weimann too. Style of play is somewhere between Gabby & Bent. But I think the ball-to-feet game suits him so much better.— Richard Yallop (@RichardYallop) January 25, 2015
Playing weimann upfront today was so much better than wider— Louis Fogg (@louisfogg98) January 25, 2015
Actually think Weimann's finish is better than Gil's due to the control needed.— Chris Sanders (@Chrissanders13) January 25, 2015
Really solid second half that. Gil brilliant, and probably the best I've seen Weimann play in 18 months.— r (@walmsleyr) January 25, 2015
Lovely football! Brilliant finish. Weimann has been miles better today— Eleanor Jackson (@elliejackson1) January 25, 2015
