Taking a look at the matches and possible outcomes for this years’ Royal Rumble.
The road to Wrestlemania begins tonight with the 28th annual Royal Rumble so let’s take a look at the matches and what they may mean for the future.
As always there are several Superstars on the roster who have the potential to become credible winners at the Pay-Per-View as well as those who are receiving a push from the company when they may not deserve it.
So let’s take a look at the matches and the possible outcomes.
The New Day Vs. Cesaro, Tyson Kidd & Adam Rose
For the last year WWE have put some life back into the tag team division, with Gold & Stardust, The Usos, Los Matadores and The Miz & Damien Mizdow creating an entertaining and credible division for the first time in a while. The New Day are one of the latest additions to the division and it is great to see a real stable emerge once again. They have had some great matches and have proved to be a genuine contender for the Tag Team titles in the future. Cesaro & Tyson Kidd appear to have been thrown together for no apparent reason, for once however it has worked. They work well together and have produced some fantastic moments over the past few weeks. We are still unsure what Adam Rose has to do with all of this but this promises to be an entertaining match. We predict that The New Day will be victorious tonight, with a strong push for the tag team titles to follow. Although they are currently a babyface team it would be pretty easy to see how the preaching of Xavier Woods could quickly become a negative entity as the WWE Universe refuses to follow their message.
The New Age Outlaws Vs. The Ascension
On this weeks’ Raw we saw The Ascension taken apart by Road Dogg and Billy Gunn, finally giving the newest members of the WWE Roster a credible battle. We know from their devastating run on NXT that the Ascension are a force to be reckoned with. Powerful and agile, with ruthless efficiency and awe inspiring tag moves they have what it takes to be Tag Champions in no time at all. The issue is how WWE Creative introduced them, essentially re-hashing Randy Orton’s’ Giant Killer persona but only pitting them again “Local Talents”. Tonight we can finally get to see them face a tough opponent in The New Age Outlaws. Some may claim that they are passed it but their recent run showed that they still have what it takes to put on a good show. We predict a win for The Ascension tonight, finally giving them the push they deserve.
Paige & Natalya Vs. The Bella Twins
This seems like a wasted space on the match card, quite why we are seeing a Tag Team Match between these Divas in unknown, especially when one of them, Nikki Bella, is Diva’s Champion. All four Divas in this match are extremely talented and all deserve to be champion, the only question is why this wasn’t a Divas Title Match? We’re sure this will be a decent match but it does seem a waste of time. Whilst we would like to see Paige & Natalya come out on top, we predict a win for The Bella Twins.
The Usos (c) Vs. The Miz & Damien Mizdow
The Usos have been decent champions and we don’t believe that that will change tonight. The relationship between Miz & Mizdow has been breaking down recently and tonight will likely be the turning point that sees Damien Mizdow return to his rightful Damien Sandow persona. The crowd are ready for Sandow to strike out on his own and Royal Rumble would be the perfect time to see this happen; no doubt after Miz blames him for losing the match. The Usos will likely win the match, with a possible feud with The Ascension or New Day on the horizon. Our only grievance is that seeming disappearance of Gold & Stardust.
Brock Lesnar (c) Vs. John Cena Vs. Seth Rollins
Whilst we have nothing against Brock Lesnar it has to be said that his run as champion has been ultimately negative on the WWE. It is unthinkable to have a champion who doesn’t represent the company at every event and hopefully tonight this will finally change. The safe money would be on a win for John Cena, months of troubles have haunted the WWE’s top star so it would be safe to presume that he will finally be coming out on top. Rumours of Lesnar’s departure to UFC have been widespread so it is unlikely he’ll retain the title, although of course not impossible. For us the best result would be a win for Seth Rollins, now this may be controversial but we believe it would set up a great angle for the Road to Wrestlemania. Chances are that Rollins will cash in his Money In The Bank contract after either Cena or Lesnar win the match. This could set up a great feud, especially if our choice for Royal Rumble winner were to happen. More on that now.
30 Man Royal Rumble Battle Royal
With so many potential winners in the Royal Rumble match it seems impossible to choose a favourite, we will however take a look at the most likely suspects and give you our view on whether they could or should win. We’ll start off with Roman Reigns, the majority of publications and opinion pieces appear see Reigns as the favourite, and it’s easy to see why. He has been pushed heavily by WWE Creative and his return doesn’t appear to have slowed that push. He certainly could win it and a potential feud for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship with Seth Rollins would be interesting. Next up is Daniel Bryan, another superstar who was on top before a long term injury. His recent return has proved that his popularity hasn’t waned in the slightest; he would certainly be a popular winner with the WWE Universe and certainly a worthy one. We don’t think this will happen though, even though a feud with Rollins and The Authority would be easy to write for WWE Creative given their history. The Big Show is another superstar to look out for who will likely make a big impact. Expect him to go for the elimination record this year, before being dumped out by Reigns. Last but not least is Dean Ambrose, the lunatic fringe is an outside chance but one we feel would be the best result. Ambrose is a huge fan favourite, essentially taking up CM Punk’s outsider mantle of late. We would love to see him win the rumble and this is where our previous statement regarding Rollins and the title comes in. Imagine Rollins winning the title and then Ambrose winning the Rumble, setting up a Wrestlemania main event against these most bitter of enemies. This would be a no brainer for WWE creative and the fans would love to see Ambrose finally get a proper match against Rollins, especially after his Hell in A Cell match was so rudely interrupted. Our prediction is that Reigns will come out victorious but we would love it to be Ambrose.
WWE Royal Rumble 2015 is live on Sky Box Office and WWE Network from 1AM (GMT) tonight.
