Cordoba striker Bebe has defended his former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portuguese superstar received a straight red card on Saturday, AS report.
The Real Madrid superstar has more often than not made the front pages in Spain this season following his wonderful goal scoring form which has seen him break numerous records.
On Saturday, however, Ronaldo ultimately had a game to forget as he let his frustrations boil over and petulance creep in as he struggled to make an impact.
With less than ten minutes remaining, the 29-year-old exploded, firstly with a wild swing of the arm from a corner, then an ensuing tussle with Edimar left the left-back tumbling to the floor after being kicked.
Ronaldo was deservedly shown a straight red card and has since been berated by the Spanish media, yet he does have a supporter in former United teammate and now Cordoba striker Bebe.
“Cristiano has already apologised. It’s something that could have happened to anyone,” Bebe told Spanish publication AS.
“It’s happened to me and to many other players that I know. I know Cristiano from our time at Manchester United. He’s a good friend and good person.
“He’s the best ever and what happened could have happened to anyone at such a tense moment in the game.”
Ronaldo and Bebe were Portuguese colleagues with the Red Devils, though their impact on the Old Trafford outfit and ensuing careers couldn’t be any different.
While Ronaldo has just claimed his third Ballon d’Or trophy and is fondly remembered in Manchester, Bebe on the other hand is widely regarded as one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s biggest transfer flops.
