Sunderland and Fulham played out a goalless draw with each other in the fourth round of the FA Cup at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Premier League outfit Sunderland headed into the tie as favourites, but they had to settle for a replay at Craven Cottage in London.

Gus Poyet’s side ended the game with 10 men after Jack Rodwell was shown a second yellow card for impeding Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.

Former West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe was making his home debut for Sunderland after joining them from Toronto FC earlier this month.

However, the 32-year-old England international striker failed to lead the Black Cats to a win at the Stadium of Light which was less than half full.

Despite being a Championship side, Fulham gave a good account of themselves and deservedly earned themselves a replay.
