The Germany international limped out of his side’s 1-1 friendly draw with Fortuna Dusseldorf yesterday.
The British press have been talking up Arsenal’s interest in Ilkay Gundogan recently, with both The Daily Star and The Mirror suggesting that the Gunners were ready to move for the Borussia Dortmund midfielder this month.
However, with Arsene Wenger’s squad depleted with injuries and the likes of Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey all suffering from ailments of late, the German’s recent injury problems will surely be a factor should the Gunners decide to move for him.
Gundogan has had a number of injury concerns over the last 18 months and missed the World Cup in the summer due to not being fit to travel.
The gifted 24-year-old limped out of Dortmund’s 1-1 friendly draw with Fortuna Dusseldorf yesterday after 30 minutes, sparking fears that he is set for another prolonged period on the sidelines.
Since a promising 2012-13 campaign at Signal Iduna Park, Gundogan has spent the large majority of his time on the Dortmund treatment table.
He only played one Bundesliga game last season and has only been fit enough to feature in eight league fixtures so far this season.
There has been no official news from Dortmund as yet in regards to how serious Gundogan’s latest setback is, but surely the last thing Arsenal need is another injury-prone midfielder?
