Alan Pardew's honeymoon period at Crystal Palace has not so much continued as gone into overtime. Four games for the former Southampton, West Ham United and Newcastle United boss during his Selhurst Park tenure have brought four wins - with three of them coming from behind against Premier League opposition.
On a famous Saturday of FA Cup shocks, Palace provided shock value of their own at St Mary's, as Southampton, third in the top flight, were beaten on their own patch.
Yaya Sanogo, keen to celebrate on Twitter after the game, scored his first goal for Crystal Palace, while Marouane Chamakh netted twice against the Saints. But, as ever, there were one or two unsung heroes within Pardew's side.
Chief among them was Joel Ward, the defender Crystal Palace fans were simply delighted with after the win. The 25-year-old has been used as a left-back this season but was in his natural right-back position against Southampton (as he has been lately) - and that, according to Palace fans, is where he excels.
During the Eagles' third goal, in particular, Ward was superb in the build-up - and Crystal Palace supporters made their (positive) feelings known towards the full-back on Twitter after the game.
Just when will Pardew's Crystal Palace bubble burst? Here's the best supporter reaction to Ward's display v Southampton!
Ward's skill in the build up to Chamak's 2nd goal including the chipped ball through off the outside of his boot was glorious! #CPFC— Jonathan Whitehead (@jonnywheat) January 25, 2015
Ward is an average left back. But absolute quality right back. Candidate for man of the match #cpfc— Palace (@PalaceCPFC) January 24, 2015
I've always rated Ward so so highly. He puts his heart and soul into every game. True Palace man #cpfc— Beulah Pickles (@Beulah12) January 24, 2015
And Joel Ward. What a run and pass for the third goal! We missed that whilst he was playing left back #cpfc— Rachael (@Rach_cpfc) January 25, 2015
Ward playing at right back again and we're winning. That can't be a coincidence #cpfc— Ilya Szkwarok (@ilya_szkwarok) January 24, 2015
