Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey has revealed to The Sun that he is an Arsenal fan.
Forster-Caskey, who is one of the best young players in the Championship, has also said that he wants to get Mesut Ozil’s shirt today.
“I’m a proud Gooner,” the youngster told The Sun. “I used to watch games at Highbury and I see big matches at the Emirates, especially in the Champions League.
“If we win, I’m grabbing Mesut’s shirt. As a midfielder myself, I’ve always liked the way he plays. He’s had some stick since coming to England, but no reigning world champion can be considered a bad player.
“He’s had an injury but is back now and I reckon this could be his season. There will be no greater memento for me after a famous giant-killing than to have his shirt framed and hanging in my lounge.”
It seems that Forster-Caskey is determined to win against Arsenal, but at the same time he is happy to be playing against the club he supports.
It is also interesting to note the youngster defending Arsenal playmaker Ozil, who has been criticised for his underpar performances over the past year or so.
Signed from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013, the Germany international made a great start to life in the Premier League.
However, Ozil started to fizzle out in the second half of last season and struggled to make a huge impact at the start of the 2014-15 campaign.
The 2014 World Cup winner has just returned from a long-term injury, and such is the competition for places in the Arsenal team that he is not even guaranteed a place in the starting line-up anymore.
Perhaps Ozil will start today. If he does, then he will need to make the most of his chance and weave the magic he used to at Madrid.
