Aston Villa fans react on Twitter to Fabian Delph's new contract

Fabian Delph has agreed a new long-term deal with Aston Villa so what do their fans make of the news?

Aston Villa have announced that midfielder Fabian Delph has signed a new four-and-a-half year deal at the club, and it is fair to say the news was greeted by surprise as much as delight from the club’s supporters.

With his previous contract set to expire in the summer, the England international had been linked with both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur (by the Daily Star among others) in recent months, but instead Delph showed his commitment to his current club by penning a new deal.

The 25-year-old has really upped his game in recent times – earning recognition from his national team as a result – and while injury and suspension have robbed him of much of this season he remains integral to Paul Lambert’s side.

Delph has made 114 appearances for Villa to date and his all-round contribution is vital week in, week out.

He becomes the latest player to sign a new deal at Villa Park, following in the footsteps of the promising Jack Grealish, and after the news the midfielder revealed why he signed on the dotted line once more.

“I love being here and I want to put 100 per cent into everything I do here,” he is quoted as saying by Villa’s official website.

“This is my club and I want to be here. That’s why I’m committing my future.”
