Ajax fans say goodbye to Man United star Daley Blind with huge banner

The versatile midfielder and Southampton’s Toby Alderweireld were given a sendoff at the Amsterdam club’s clash with Feyenoord yesterday.

Ajax fans revealed a huge banner to say goodbye to former favourite Daley Blind at yesterday’s clash with rivals Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.

The Netherlands international moved to Old Trafford in the summer to join up with compatriot Louis van Gaal, but was a fans favourite at the Amsterdam Arena.

Both Blind and Southampton loanee Toby Alderweireld were in attendance at the grudge clash and were given a standing ovation by the home support as a mark of respect for their past efforts.

Blind has featured in a number of different positions for United this season, making ten Premier League appearances and scoring one goal since his switch in the summer.

The 24-year-old was the Eredivisie Player of the Year last season and played a considerable role in helping Ajax to the top-flight title in 2013-14.

Alderweireld left Amsterdam in the summer of 2013 to join Atletico Madrid, but has struggled to fit in at the Spanish capital city side.

As a result the Belgium international has spent this season on loan at Southampton and has struck up an excellent understanding with Jose Fonte in the Saints’ defence.
