Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson says Tottenham will embarrass themselves if they get knocked out of the Capital One Cup by Sheffield United.
The ex-Gunner feels Spurs have done enough to get through courtesy of their 1-0 Capital One Cup first leg win, despite describing their performance negatively, insisting there is no way they should let it slip now.
He said: "I think it was ‘job done’ for Chelsea, getting away with a 1-1 draw. The same goes for Spurs. They were awful against Sheffield United but managed to win the game and not concede an away goal.
"If you lose against a League One team with a one-goal lead like that, you don’t deserve to be in the Premier League."
Spurs would not be the first Premier League side to suffer against the Blades however. Third-placed side Southampton lost there in the Capital One Cup earlier this season.
Nigel Clough's side also beat Aston Villa in the FA Cup last season, as well as Fulham, who were in the Premier League at the time.
None of those sides had a 1-0 first leg lead to back them up, but the danger the Blades possess is evident, by the tough game they posed against Tottenham on Wednesday night.
Merson's comments are hyperbole, and it's credit to Sheffield United that he may be one of the only ones shocked if they find a way to win in midweek, and that's in respect to their talent and management, rather than a slight on Tottenham.
