Last season, Liverpool player Joao Teixeira gave a tantalising glimpse of what he is capable of as a late substitute against Fulham.
That has been the Portuguese player’s only senior Reds appearance to date, with the 22-year-old spending this season on loan at Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion.
Teixeira has made 21 appearances for Brighton thus far, but it was last week’s match against Ipswich Town that really showed what the player can do, as the Liverpool loanee scored two goals in a 3-2 victory.
Next up is a FA Cup fourth round tie against Arsenal on Sunday, and Teixeira should be using that encounter as the perfect chance to show Reds manager Brendan Rodgers he deserves a run in their first-team next season and beyond.
Some may suggest Teixeira upped his game in the build-up to the FA Cup match because he knew all too well how important it is, for both his club and potentially for him as an individual.
If he can inspire his side to another victory, this time against Arsene Wenger’s multi-million-pound squad, he will have well and truly arrived.
Many players make their name in this famous competition and the young Liverpool player could be the next to do so. And if he does, Liverpool may have a future great on their hands.
